Monologues returns with its third release, following on from Laurence Guy’s ‘Les Mur’ EP - played by the likes of Sasse, Adam Port, Ben Pearce, Jacques Renault, Rancido, NTS and Future Disco.
Next in the spotlight is Sweden’s supremely talented André Laos - a prodigious musician who graduated from the Red Bull Music Academy in 2013 and cuts a fine line in melodic, slickly produced deeper house music. The Gothenberg-based producer has seriously impressed in recent times, released the stunning ‘One Way’ EP on Let’s Play House and ‘Mangold’ on Rob Da Bank’s new Silver Bear Recordings imprint, plus remixing house legends Mood II Swing for King Street. His electronic trio DNKL also look set for huge things - hotly tipped by The Line Of Best Fit and Record Of The Day.
This EP finds him in more introspective mood than previous outings. 'Tragic Tofu' balances deft chord stabs and gentle, highly-swung percussion against a dizzying, pitch-bending bassline, shimmering and tense pads - before unleashing a beautifully restrained, soaring lead line. It’s dreamy deep house with just the right amount of techy inflexion.
'Soy Beaner' begins with German spoken word and tropical birdsong (stay with us here), with low-slung monotone bass driving wooden percussion along in a defiant stomp. Melodies come manifold and subtle, with gently detuned stabs punctuating distant arps and sumptuous pads that unfold fully for a heavenly breakdown. Hypnotic, sensual and delectable.
Monologues is a podcast series where DJ/producer/live acts mix only their own material. The series has racked up over 200,000 plays so far through mixes by the likes of Adam Port, Till Von Sein, Jori Hulkkonen, Uffe, Melon and Patrice Baumel, with a new monthly globally syndicated radio show just launched and upcoming guests including Sasse and Brassica.
Support from Death On The Balcony, Barrientos, Baunz, Terrence Pearce, Tayo (NTS), JEPE, Anil Chawla + Manuel Sahagun.
